Dataset Curation of Wearable Health Monitoring Data for Indian Population

Context & Background

Wearable sensors (like Fitbit, Apple Watch) monitor critical vitals like heart rate, ECG, and oxygen saturation. While this data helps predict disorders, there is no standardized, public dataset of wearable health data collected specifically from the Indian population.

Problems to be Addressed

Indian physiological characteristics, diet, and lifestyle differ from Western populations. Models trained on foreign datasets fail when deployed locally. There is also a lack of APIs to easily extract, clean, and synchronize wearable data.

Aims and Objectives

1. Curate an integrated, annotated wearable health database for India.
2. Design a cloud middleware supporting smart API queries.
3. Develop cuffless, noninvasive blood pressure monitoring sensors.

Methodology

A pilot cohort is selected, and physiological parameters are gathered using wearables during everyday activities. The team builds a secure repository following GDPR and HIPAA guidelines. Clinicians and researchers access this data using custom search APIs, and in-house cuffless sensors are validated.

Expected Outcomes

A secure national wearable health repository, a query API for health researchers, and cuffless blood pressure monitoring prototypes.
